Frequently Asked Questions

Why is depositing before the 5th of every month important?
Under statutory PPF scheme rules, monthly interest is calculated on the minimum balance held between the close of the 5th day and the end of the calendar month. If you deposit after the 5th, that deposit will not earn interest for that entire month.
What is the EEE status of PPF?
Exempt-Exempt-Exempt (EEE) means: (1) Contributions are tax-deductible up to ₹1.5 Lakh under Section 80C (Old Regime), (2) Interest credited every year is completely tax-free, and (3) The entire lump sum maturity withdrawal is exempt from income tax.
Can I extend PPF after 15 years?
Yes. Upon completing the 15-year tenure, you can extend your account in blocks of 5 years indefinitely. You can choose to extend with fresh annual contributions or without making any further contributions while continuing to earn interest.
Can PPF be attached by a court order or creditors?
No. Under Section 15 of the Government Savings Promotion Act, 1873, a PPF account balance cannot be attached by any court decree or liability to creditors, providing supreme wealth protection.
